Make Your Own “Calm Box” for Emotional Regulation

Have you heard of the “Calm Box” before?
It can even be a “Release Box” for anger diffusing.
It could even be a “Realignment Box”.

You can make this for yourself and/or for your kids.
It’s such an open-ended project to re-discover emotional intelligence for yourself and for your child/teenager to understand how to emotionally regulate.

I look back on my childhood and teenage year wondering how I would have turned out if I had such a wonderful box to explore my thoughts and feelings. Since I can’t turn back time, I can help my children and friend’s children to bring this into their lives for resiliency and emotional intelligence.

The “Calm Box” idea came to me when I looked at my own shrine.
I felt that my children could use something like this but contained in a box that signified a safe container. I looked up mindfulness techniques for children on Pinterest.

After I posted my reel on Instagram, I had loads of private messages and comments. I am overjoyed that it is something that could help others move through the human emotions.

A friend reached out saying that she wanted to make one for her daughter for anger diffusing. Rather than naming it the “Anger Box” I suggested she name it “Release Box”. Easy enough for a 5 year old to comprehend, right? I look forward to see what beautiful treasure box she creates for her little girl.

I had another person reach out saying that they are a university student and this person would make one for focusing, especially during exam time. What an incredible idea!

I feel that this concept can be for children, teenagers, university students, adults, and elderly. It can be made for a plethora of re-alignment. That’s the beauty of it!

Here’s the “Calm Box” PDF file for you if you’d like to print out my 2022 digital copy. If you feel called to hand-draw you own creations, it’s so much fun! Grab a glass of wine or kombucha and go at it! Otherwise, I wanted the resources to be easily accessible for those who prefer to print it.

So after reading this post, if you make a Special Box for yourself or anyone else, I would LOVE to see what you create. I look forward to see your creations and the intentions you seal in the safe container.

With so much love,
Maya
